Osamu Tezuka and the Tokiwa Art Apartment
Known as the "God of Manga" and was influenced from Disney, Colleagues, and Comics... This particular individual was Osamu Tezuka, creator of Astro Boy which had reached huge success overseas in America and at home in Japan (1952-1968). This influenced Comics, Shows, and Games at the time of their productions, like: Mobile Suit Gundam (1979), Nausicaa Valley of the Wing (1984), and Space Ship Yamato. These creators were inspired as children and grew into the profession to pursue art under such a revolutionary art talent such as Tezuka. Tokiwa Art Apartment is an apartment building that is famous as the birthplace of Japanese manga culture. Osamu Tezuka lived there from (1953). Hiroo Terada lived there and created Kintaro, Fujiko Fujio lived there and made Doraemon, and Shotaro Ishinomori who created Cyborg 009 and Kamen Rider, and Fujio Akatsuka of Osomatsu-kun and Himitsu no Akko-chan. The building is a cultural heritage site of manga culture by Toshima Ward in Tokyo. When looking at the ideas of Mega Man it shows similarities to works of many people in the Tokiwa Apartments. In particular it would be Osamu Tezuka for his tragic, naive, positive, child friendly storytelling and Shotaro Ishinomori's work of Cyborg 009 that has red characters with capes and resemble the character Blues. While other children shows could be taken into consideration into finding out the norms for what could attract the youngest of audiences as well as older audiences to make products that could stand the test of time. Rockman in Japan, the name of Mega Man was released in (1987) that was near the time of people influenced from Tezukas work. People lay many comparisons to the storyline and bases of Mega Man to the redesigns that were turned in by Keiji Inafune that follow Tezukas art style with facial drawings and egglike arms and legs for robots. While its not blatant coping it could be safe to say that Keiji Inafunes initial ideas could have been inspired by Tezuka sensei. Capcom once had the license for Astro Boy and as it had expired the company had pursued to make their own icon. At the end of the first Mega Man game you will see the company giving homage to this idea with Toby (Astroboy) in a cameo.
