Tenchi in Okayama Prefecture!
Tenchi Muyo is based on some real places in Japan and it isn't what you would expect with the typical placement of being in the middle of Tokyo. When a Tenchi series entry takes place it is common that Tenchi visits his grampa out in the middle of no where away from the big city and closer to the countryside. Where out in the countryside you say? well luckily there are many signs that tell us exactly where he is. Okayama prefecture! Okayama is located in the Chugoku region on the main island of Honshu and is about several hours away from Tokyo. Okayama is separated by its main areas of: Mimasaka, Bicchu, and Bizen. They are known for their luscious peaches and temple to momotaro (Kibitsu Jinja), great gardens with traditional tea houses and rice fields with bamboo clusters, and mamakari-zushi as well as other classical dishes. It is very old fashioned and has many traditional aspects that are well preserved. The placement of the shrine that Tenchi's Grandfather is at is called Tarojinja, which is in the quiet town by the sea of Asakuchi. There are plenty of flower sellers with potted plants, gardening enthusiasts who take an interest in garden planning, and there is a somen factory that has close to a few places that produce nationally famous textiles. Tenchi lives in the Kingdom of Fruit! The Tenchi Muyo series is often times sponsored by Okayama prefecture, like ai Tenchi Muyo! was sponsored by the city of Takahashi within the prefecture. There are a number of islands near the inland sea, which has most of its nature preserved, with mountains and rice patties for miles. The scenes are breath taking, but if a person were to live there like the Masaki family it would be hard to be entertained with out modern luxuries like mobile devices. It is nicknamed the Fruit Kingdom, because some of the best specialty fruits are grown in the area. They are known for their Luxury Fruit which is highly prized and sought after in Japan. White peach, Muscat grapes, Pione grapes, Strawberries, Melons, and Oranges all fetch a pretty high price in comparison to western countries. The most famous fruit in the prefecture of Okayama is the White Peaches, which is why you may notice them in Tenchi Muyo. Okayama Parfaits are usually made with a variety of their special grapes or with White Peaches. They use a specific type of Soft Serve with the addition of "Milmilk" a portion of shaved ice topped with refined milk syrup and possibly condensed milk. Both the farmers and the desserts are seen as artisan in the area for the amount of care and the years spent in the area of specialties. Some farms have been around for more than 100 years. Seto Bridge & Exploding Ryo-ohki In Tenchi Muyo OVA episode 2, Ayeka comes searching for her brother Yosho and has come from the planet Jurai to the planet earth. She has picked up the signal from the notorious space pirate Ryoko and investigates the area finding out her location and the spaceship Ryo-ohki. There is a chase that happens in the evening time above Tenchis home with two large spaceships shooting all over the place. Tenchi has growing concerns as he and Ryoko recklessly carries Ayeka's spaceship across the body of water known as the Seto Naikai or Seto Inland Sea and eventually crashes straight into the Seto Bridge. On the news the next day it is covered as a large meteorite that destroyed the bridge and has temporarily stopped transportation over the bridge until repairs are done to it. The Great Seto Bridge 瀬戸大橋 (Seto Ohashi), is no ordinary bridge due to its route. What that means is that it connects Okayama Prefecture to Kagawa Prefecture and connects Japan's five small islands in the Seto Inland Sea. There are a constituent of bridges that are eleven bridges in total and six main bridges: Shimotsui-Seto Bridge, Hitsuishijima Bridge, Iwakurojima Bridge, Yoshima Bridge, Kita Bisan-Seto Bridge, and Minami Bisan-Seto Bridge. Tarojinja is the Masaki Shrine 太老神社 (Thick Old Shrine) aka Masaki Shrine. Is also called Futoshiro Shrine (Taro Shrine) and is located in Okayama Prefecture in Asakuchi. The Main deities of warship is Aume no Ume (アメノウズメ. Goddess of Performing Arts) And the Ku the God of Gods (岐の神) which prevents invasion of enemies from the outside and demons from outside roads and village boundaries.
