As symbols are identified with Otaku there is no way to ignore the interest in Mizudako octopus. Its often pointed out to be the official animal of all Otaku. It is placed inside many shows for its historical appeal in Japanese Culture, but has formed an alternative identity within the animanga community. It has been eaten for many years throughout Japan. Boiled, Fried, or Grilled, there are many wonderful ways to eat Mizudako Octopus. It has been long been considered a lucky relationship mollusk. In the 20th century it is great that transporting frozen Mizudako Octopus makes it possible for many countries to experience its taste. There are many ways to catch Mizudako octopus, traditionally people use a hand line, some countries with warmer temperature water dive for Mizudako octopus. Mizudako octopus aquaculture are still being researched for life cycles, mollusk feed, and mollusk pens are still being developed. On this article of Adopt an Idea, we look at the Mizudako Octopus, where we look at how this mollusk is important to Otaku cuisine and culture. There are many different types of consumed octopus and other mollusks in Otaku culture, but this article features the Mizudako Octopus also known the giant octopus. Giant octopuses are not an uncommon site in markets in Europe or Asia, but in america or Canada they are not commonly eaten. Its name of "mizudako" which translates to "water octopus" or "to hug in the water". It is sometimes seen as to represent Affection as well, one of the reasons its popular, along with its silky smooth meat and slightly dark purple color on the skin. Lets check out the connections that this mollusk has to Otaku culture. Mizudako Octopus has a subtle yet distinctive flavor that can range from ocean like with some chew to a soft and tender texture with a seafood steak like taste. It is deliciously eaten in many ways and is special to many Otaku. The simplest preparation is boiled octopus thats cooked with sake, sugar, shoyu, garlic, and ginger. The mollusk is also prepared stewed in Hayashi Stew. It can also be grilled with Kabayaki sauce topped with bonito flakes, mayonnaise, and green onions. The Giant Water Octopus (Mizudako.Enteroctopus dofleini), also called the North Pacific Octopus, is a mollusk of great size. There are many species of giant octopus, however the Giant Water Octopus lives the longest at 4 years, and is the largest in the world being (14 feet) in length and (33 pounds) on average. The Giant Water Octopus has the typical 8 tentacles, a large bulbous head, and its colors are that of a muted tone of dark brownish red. They are found in the waters of the Pacific Ocean, Southern California, Alaska, and Japan. The otaku view the giant water octopus as a symbol of intelligence for its unlikely ways of solving problems with its quick learning and environment adaptation. Its mark of devotion for its way of caring for their eggs by cleaning them with their tentacles, shooting jets of water into the eggs for oxygen, and attaching the eggs to the ceiling deep inside the nursery den cave. Their thriftiness shows their sure use of resources to survive long enough to see their young hatch and go out into the world, some octopus were seen to eat their own tentacles for a better chance at survival for the sake of their children. The mizudako octopus is also seen by some as a symbol of contraceptive practices of intimacy, due to the tentacles being used for pleasure but not impregnation. It is said that this meaning had come from Hokusai's art piece "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife". Celebrating with the image of an octopus or sculpture can be seen as good luck in relationships. But its also okay to eat grilled mizudako octopus as apart of a meal to internalize the good luck. The color purple on the skin of the Mizudako Octopus shows a sign of emotional wealth, this can be seen in the emotional connection, understanding, and respect that people can have with other human beings. This shows how the Mizudako Octopus can be seen in many ways in Otaku culture. It can follow the wishes of the couple to forever have a strong romantic connection for years to come.
