The Hawaiian Islands
(Hawaiian: Mokupuni o Hawai‘i), are an island chain that is made up of eight major islands. Formerly the known to Europeans and Americans as the "Sandwich Islands" it was later on named "Hawaii". Culture Hawaii culture is based on its location and developed originally from the Polynesian Voyagers. Then it developed from the Native Hawaiians of the pre-contact era to the Kingdom of Hawaii. Afterwards it has grown by developing and adapting through modern day relevance. Etymology The name of Hawaii can be traced from a legendary figure in Hawaiian mythology known as Hawaiiloa which literally means Long Hawaii. The State of Hawaii derives its name from the Big Island of Hawaii which is simply called "Hawaii". |
