Commercial Plantation-Style Interior
Modern Plantation Interior Design style, is the most common design template of restaurants with retail space as a choice way for revitalizing spaces. This especially fits well with places looking for renovations, additions, and transformations that keep in the theme of the design techniques of the old plantations. Techniques and perspectives of Modern Farmhouse Interior Design styles can be seen as inspiration along with some coastal interior design flair while still using history as a basis from old plantation housing. The Matsumoto Ohana, would be one of the first families to take the plunge in preserving Haleiwas History, but applying changes for the modern age. This was handled by MGA Architecture under the design layout of Retail and Restaurants that were in the commercial category. Changes would have to be subtle while having a sense of retro-chic, material would have to be similar, and the difference would rely of space efficiency, while showcasing old elements or old school art piece. Plantation interiors are also known for mixing woods of light and dark in a color contrast. Metals are used with colors of rustic bronze, nickel, and grey metal in which it helps define the space with ceiling lights or fans and even the machines itself. It is a style that reflects the area and takes inspiration from the plantation colors, plantation metals, plantation woods, and some decor or design features of that time era that connects with nature and early plantation workers. Essential Hawaii Woods It’s essential to have a element of raw wood, because it links with the possibility of greenery if ever used in the space to make it feel a little more like the outdoors while still being indoors. It is good to use a variety of different woods depending on the color of the wood itself as it can help compliment another color. For example if there is a fence like design of a darker wood it can have insertable shelving that holds up old artifacts to be used as decor or retail products from the store itself and sectioned off on its own set of shelves. A light wood could be used as long-cut wood boards for either walls or seat backs as they can be mixed in with a line of color in some places like a surfboard. You really notice the simple wood look and rustic feel of old general stores and this helps push that out in a modern way. Long and clear lettered planks of wood that can go across if there is a list of items for a menu. It is also common to have decorative ceiling beams that bring interest to the ceiling as a powerful design element to cover piping in larger areas. For smaller areas it is common to have a very simple geometric cieling to not take away from other areas of interest in the room. For some shops emphasizing surfing may even have surf boards secured to the ceiling. Or Surf shops may have a rotating Surf board hanging. Colors of Rustic & The Mid Century The Rustic color palette is a bit muted as many colors have a bit of grey in them and make a feeling of a farmers shop or in this case a plantation workers general store. With those nice feeling colors the palette can feel humbling as well without being too loud and just about right without making a statement. Some of these colors would be similar to: Perennial Green, Starfruit Yellow, Desert Coral Red, Brick Dust Red, Flowing Breeze Blue, Flaming Torch Orange. It would be a more humble spotlight of what the area is about and leaving a small amount of areas for more modern colors or furniture that is a bit more loud to make a balance to add a bit more of the flair of modern. Where colors take more from the more modern color palette and by modern it would be brighter versions of the 1950s midcentury color scheme. These would be like Yellow Gold, Heartrob Red, Olive Green, Blush Pink, Aqua Blue, Carnival Orange. Being careful with color and not using too much can be important in maintaining the charm of an area. If the olden days plantations didn't have plenty of bright color you wouldn't want to have no muted hue colors, but be careful with it. Finding creative ways that both wood, metal, and colors are more important in this style than others. Rustic Lighting and Industrial Accents With the walls being pretty plain it would be important for certain focuses to be used on key areas. This could be used with framed artwork, scultures, old machines, equipment, decorated ascents, as well as furniture in the room. It would give the room a little pop to make it a bit fun in those focus areas of the interior as it tells its story of history in a fun way. The textures really speak in this sort of style as there can be the warmth from the bold statement of being the heart of the technique with bold fixtures and fixer-upper appeal of island history. Having large tables works well for making things feel inviting and with large doors for the opening. The wood compliments the metals to make them pop out more than they would when adding light industrial accents. This can be seen when people make their own custom slatwall panel system for merchandise. Either using rustic metals from a metal base or painting over the metal in a more colorful tone behind the wood paneling as it allows for slatwall hooks and slatwall shelves. photo of hula girl bar and grill
