Replicating the Saimin Bowl Design
The Saimin bowl that is respected is the classic bowl that was brought over from classic chinese designs that are seen as classic. While the bowl had seemingly hadn't changed there were small attempts to make variations on it that slid by the way side, but it can't be helped that a simple saimin bowl would be overlooked. I did my best to try and make a saimin bowl that looks almost identical to what is seen at many saimin restaurants. By replicating the detail in the bowls design digitally it would help in the long term of elaborating on the idea of how bowls are to be standardized in their concept. Artisans have their own bowl designs as well, so, it will prove to be interesting in which direction their talents point at for artisan saimin bowls. It would be a venture that has artisans coming together for a way to expand on identity of saimin establishments and also sell bowls to many groups as something from Hawaii. Slight differences can be seen in a few color changes and simplified shapes. The primary visual change is the calligraphy change to a honu turtle in its design. Hopefully it will be one of many bowls for the future to shape the future of things to come in Hawaii sculpting.
